Strong Roots is grounded in years of hands-on experience in social safety, domestic violence prevention, and community-based work across small-island contexts.

Building resilient people and communities

Strong Roots strengthens individuals and communities by promoting social safety, self-reliance, and sustainable resilience. We support people and organizations in developing direction, stability, and future prospects, grounded in dignity, protection, and shared responsibility.

Vision

We believe that lasting change begins with strong roots:
people who feel safe, are seen, and have access to knowledge, support, and fair opportunities.

Strong Roots operates from the conviction that:

  • resilience can be strengthened;
  • prevention and early action reduce long-term harm;
  • collaboration across sectors leads to sustainable impact.

Our vision is a society in which people - regardless of background - can grow, contribute, and shape their own future.

What Strong Roots Does

Strong Roots develops and coordinates social impact initiatives at local, regional, and international levels, with a focus on:

Social Safety & Prevention
Strengthening early recognition, safe response, and awareness around domestic violence, gender-based violence, and vulnerability.

Empowerment & Participation
Programs that support self-confidence, leadership, and agency within safe and supportive environments.

Community-Based Collaboration
Partnerships with governments, NGOs, and regional stakeholders to build locally anchored, culturally appropriate solutions.

Strong Roots works project-based, transparently, and in line with good governance principles, maintaining a clear separation between oversight and execution.

Our Approach

Strong Roots works through a combination of people-focused and system-focused methods:

• Capacity building

Training, workshops, and facilitated sessions for professionals, leaders, and networks.

• Practical implementation

Hands-on guidance to translate safeguarding duties into daily practice, including decision-making, documentation, and referral pathways.

• Context-driven design

All approaches are adapted to local realities, especially in small-island and close-community settings.

Impact

Creating lasting change through structure, safety, and collaboration

Strong Roots focuses on sustainable social impact by strengthening people, organizations, and systems. Our work is designed to move beyond awareness alone and translate safeguarding principles into consistent, practical action, especially in small-island and close-community contexts.

Where We Work

Strong Roots operates primarily in small-island and close-knit community contexts, where social safety, safeguarding, and coordination are both critical and complex.

Primary focus areas include:

Caribbean Netherlands (BES)

Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten

Wider Caribbean and CARICOM islands

All projects are developed in close alignment with local context, capacity, and partner priorities.

What We Stand For

Our work is guided by clear principles that shape both content and collaboration:

Integrity – clear roles, ethical decision-making, and professional accountability

Transparency – safeguarding processes that are understandable and defensible

Collaboration – working across disciplines and organizations, not in silos

Sustainability – building systems that continue after projects end

These principles ensure trust, continuity, and responsible use of resources.
